Past Projects

Building Play, Together.

Over the past several years, Walden Public School and our School Council have worked alongside families, students, and local partners to transform our school yard into a more engaging, welcoming, and active space. Each project represents the generosity, collaboration, and pride of our community.

Below are some of the improvements we’ve already brought to life—and the momentum we’re building together.

Outdoors Percussive Instruments

Musical Instruments

Installed

The outdoor percussion installation features a circle of large, colourful metal drums of varying heights, designed for children to strike and explore rhythm. It’s set on a sandy surface surrounded by smooth boulders, encouraging creative, collaborative play and sensory engagement in the school’s playground.

Mud Kitchens

Installed: October 2023

Our youngest learners now have a designated space for imaginative, hands-on play. The mud kitchens were envisioned by our School Council and built with care by Lively District Secondary School students, under the guidance of Mr. Chris Dinnes.

This project highlights the strength of cross-school partnerships and the creativity of our students at every grade.

Gaga Ball Court

GaGa Ball Court

Installed: June 2023

The GaGa Ball Court quickly became one of the most popular play spaces on the yard — encouraging movement, teamwork, and friendly competition.

We are incredibly grateful to Pinehill Lumber and Futurescape Landscaping for generously donating materials and support, and to the Lively District Secondary School students who helped construct the court under the supervision of Mr. Chris Dinnes.

Permanent Soccer Goals

Installed: May 2025

Thanks to ongoing fundraising efforts and strong support from families and the community, we were able to install permanent soccer goals and netting. The field is now a daily hub of activity, teamwork, and play during every recess and after school.

Walden Public School Soccer Nets
Volleyball Net

Volleyball Court

Installed November 2025

Our next addition to the yard will be a dedicated volleyball court — providing students with another space to play, build confidence, and stay active.
More details and photos will be added once installation is complete — stay tuned!
